THINKING ABOUT BECOMING A CATECHIST? SOME QUICK FACTS:
*You DO NOT need to be a teacher by profession.
*St. Joseph provides in-house training for all new catechists.
*There are lead catechists at each grade level who provide lesson plans for each session.
*Team teaching is an option.
*Mentors, classroom aides, substitute catechists are available to assist you.
*Average class size is 12 to 15 students.
*Teacher manuals, worksheets, projects, crafts and movies are available throughout the year. All materials are provided by FF Office.
*If you commit to becoming a catechist or assistant catechist your student(s) tuition will be waived.
*If you are volunteering as a catechist, you must also be willing to work towards catechists certification, attending at least two formation classes per year.
*It is also necessary for you to attend a Protecting God's Children (PGC) workshop and a criminal background check.
*We are in need to volunteer their time in other ways: Greeters, Hall Monitors, General Office help.
It is a small time commitment with huge rewards as you watch a child grow in relationship with God.
Please prayerfully consider becoming a part of forming the faith of our children, the future of our Church.
*Each grade level has a specific religious focus:
K. - God is Love
1st – Prayers
2nd – Reconciliation and Communion
3rd – Saints
4th – Ten Commandments
5th – Seven Sacraments
6th – Bible

*There are 26 sessions during FF school year, each 1 hour and 15 minutes long.
*Sessions meet Mondays 6:30 – 7:45 pm or Tuesdays 5:30 – 6:45 pm.
*Year long support system.
*Remember: You are NEVER ALONE. There is always someone there to lend a hand.
Our Father in heaven, we ask You to bless children throughout the world as they learn about Your Son and learn how to pray to You just as we do. We pray for our catechists who bring the Good News of Jesus Your Son to our children and who share with them His message of love, hope, forgiveness and peace. Strengthen us with Your Spirit so we may share our Catholic Faith with others and help to bring Jesus’ message of peace to all the world. Amen.
